Hidden Valley Farm Sanctuary At Hidden Valley Farm Sanctuary, we offer a place of solace for farm pets in need. We provide peace of mind for owners who, out of love, want to ensure their animals are cared for into the future but can no longer provide for them themselves. When full sponsorship is arranged, animals come into our care where they are safe, cherished, and given the opportunity to thrive. In some cases, we find loving homes for animals without requiring a long-term commitment from their former owners. In these situations, our team works hard to fundraise, connect with independent sponsors, or place the animals with on-site adopters. We are often approached to take in more animals, but as a self-funded, not-for-profit sanctuary, this is only possible when sponsorship is secured. The truth is that animal care requires more than goodwill—it demands funds, time, energy, and dedication. For many owners, the gift of knowing their animals are safe and loved is priceless. Every donation—large or small—goes directly toward the care of our sanctuary animals. BNZ - Hidden Valley Sanctuary: 02-0108-0103351-003 (Ref: Name and Email) Sponsors provide invaluable, support behind the scenes, while adopters enjoy the joy of sharing life with a farm pet at Hidden Valley—without the full financial or daily responsibilities of care. If you’d like to join our Hidden Valley family, whether directly or remotely, we’d love to hear from you. We need help with fundraisind, Club Membership promotions and management, Social Media help. Meet Our Animals Each animal at the sanctuary has their own story and journey. Many are available for sponsorship or adoption, and you can meet them by scrolling down this page. Some have even left us for greener pastures, but their memory and spirit remain part of Hidden Valley forever. Contact Us sadly, we can not accept new animals to the sanctuary due to rising costs, limited funds, and space. However, if you are looking for a home for your farm pet, please get in touch—we may be able to help connect you with a suitable option.
Pippi
Pipi is a typical example of a hand reared goat, who grew up and took over her owners lives and heart. It became apparent she needed to reintigrate into farm life where home comforts where still available.

Liby
Libby's previous owner reached out because Libby didn't, fit in with her herd. Sadly, Libby had been shifted on several occasions, and we hope this move will be her last and she will be happy here. Time will tell? I sat with her on the journey after we managed to get a head collar on, for the first time and we already started to build trust.
Follow Facebook to see her story and keep your fingers crossed for her success. Libby needs sponsorship or Onsight adoption if you would like to support her please get in touch.

Edwin
Edwin is not a rescue kitten as such, although we do have many strays up here on the hill but we wanted to introduce him anyway. Edwin has joined the team to keep some of our other wee unwanted visitors at bay.
He's proving to be quite the entertainer and loves his drives in the buggy up and down our farm drive. He is booked to visit the vet for all the necessary treatments and of course as responsible owners we wont be enabling him to make more kittens in the future.

Ayla & Lilly
Ayla was a 12 year old TB (Raced) and Lilly a 24 year old SB came together as long term paddock mates, due to no fault of their own. Their original owner was unable to secure them a safe forever home. Lilly spent a year with us before sadly passing away from old age complications.
Ayla continued life in the valley, with her new friends, until she tragically lost her footing and fell to her death. Lilly and Ayla spirits live on in our minds and as spirits of the hills. - R.I.P together
Tyla
Tyla came to HVF in March 2024 as her long term owner needed to go overseas for an undetermined time. Tyla is fully sponsored by her owner. She keeps full ownership and is able to follow her retirement, living as a herd on Takaka Hill. Tyla was living on the flat for several years and we noticed she didn’t have a lot of muscle, so we are all keen to see how this changes over the next few months.

Nellie from day one has been strong bright and curious. Russel
Russell was rescued by Terri many years ago, along with two other horses Pepe and Vicky, who have since sadly died. Russell hasn't been too fortunate in his life as he sufferes with laminitus, a very painful and frequently recurrent condition in horses. This condition affects the tissues in the hoof and can be debilitating. Since living at HVF his suffering has improved ten fold, due to the low sugar and roughage content in the grass and the hills keeping him strong. He is fully retired. Terri loves Russell so much. He is the boss gelding and loves his life on the farm.Russle-Bustle is Terri's life long friend and does not need sponsorship
BB
BB arrived named Tui but didn't seem to react to that name much, so gained a nick name that has since stuck, BB meaning Big Boss.BB was accompanied by her inseparable paddock mate Alan the Alpaca's and they remain best mate, always looking out for each other.Because Terri has suffered with a bad back and is so busy, she hasn't been riding BB much, so would love to share BB with another lady ride volunteer. She is a gentle ride. Alan
Alan the alpaca arrived at Hidden Valley Farm with his bestie BB (Horse). They are inseparable. Alan is very shy but starting to come out of his shell. derek
Terri found Derek as an abandoned lamb and took him home to warm up in front of the fire. Terri & Jim had only lived on the property for a few weeks, so it was a great opportunity to meet the neighbours. They took him back to where he came from but he kept returning. eventually it was decided he would stay on the farm to keep Babs company. They're now the best of friends. They love walks to eat the hedgerows, so if you come to visit the farm, you might be able to do that with them? Derek is featured in our first book.

pecker friends
- Hidden Valley Farm has had an ongoing cry of help to take in chooks and roosters. Some have been generously sponsored, others on occasion just left at the gate. Here are some of our chook family who love to entertain our holiday makers.
- sponsorship always welcomed.
PiggySue
Piggysue arrived in Jims arms, as a very young abondoned or lost piglett, off the Hidden Valley Farm.
It is with great sadness that PiggySue passed away on 30th May 2024 due to natural causes. She is laid to rest in our sanctuary cemetery. Piggysue left some wee pigletts behind who will require sponsorship
Can you offer Piggysues' pigletts a home or an onsite adoption or sponsorship?

It was always Terri's dream to rescue dairy calves. Gail arrived at only 5 days old with Stormy, another calf who sadly didn't make the traumer. Gail is now a paddock mate with other rescue cows, Katie, Sharon and Racal
Gail will grow and live here forever, providing milk for some Takaka valley families.

Lacy isn't a full time resident of HVF but is very much part of our team. Lacy belongs to Claire Hutt, our sanctuary secrutery and very good friend and number one supporter of our work here. Lacy is a St Johns Therapy dog, working in the Motueka community. Lacy has regularly visited and holidays at the farm since she was a puppy, gaining confidence and learning the Green cross code. No sponsorship required
Tilly
Tilly is a boarder collie, bred to work on the farm. She has loads of instinct but much more a pet than a working dog. As she doesn't come off the farm, she can be a little nervous of new people. If you visit, just let her come to you and she will settle, give her a walk and she will be your best friend!.No sponsorship required
yoby
Terri & Jim rescued Yob from the streets of Christchurch. He has a big scar on his neck but this doesn't seem to bother him these days. He loves nothing more than running free and sitting in the driving seat of Jim's car. He is now very spoilt and is the best of friends with Tilly. You might hear him growl but its very superficial.
No sponsorship required
zozzy
Terri & Jim previously owned Four Foot Lodge a boarding kennel and cattery. Zozzy's mum was put into their care for several months, while her family were overseas. However, when they left her they had no idea she was pregnant until Zozzy and his brothers and sisters arrived. All but Zozzy were rehomed, so he stayed. with Terri to catch mice, He is now very old and retired to the farm house.
Sadly passed away in 2024. R.I.P little man

Ashby was purchased as a paddock mate for Russel when Terri first arrived at Hidden Valley Farm, from the first day she has been a hit with everyone, she loves attention and accepts babies on her back. Onsite adoption available.
obiwan
Obiwan was homed with us as a young entire stallion, We did the wise thing of getting him castrated on 30-05-24. OBiwan is one of the most curious ponies we have, he loves cuddles and has proved to be a perfect therapy pony for those who are nerves of horses. While here he has sired Nellie with Pixi before his castration. R.I.P 2024

Sarg/Chief
Sarg, as we call him, is the roundest and very cutest of our ponies. He arrived with Bo when their long time home circumstance changed. Their owners couldn't bare to lose all contact with them or live with the horror of an uncertain future. They are delighted that they can stay together and run in a herd with other mini ponies. Cheif loves attention and is quite happy with small children on his back and their parents by their side. Can you offer Sarg onsite adoption &/or sponsorship?
bo
Bo arrived with Cheif. She is probably the oldest pony here and has given years of love to children. She was reluctantly given up by her owners. however they knew she would be safe here. She doesn't like too much fussing but loves apple pieces and will ask for them by picking up her hoof. In her old age she struggles with anxiety Can you offer Bo onsite adoption &/or sponsorship?
zeb
Zebby is a stunning Mini Shetland Pony, however he is an unknown mix and is the largest of the Shetlands. Zeb never fails to turn heads. He is strong-willed and determined, but has a very soft side to him too.Zeb was one of four minis who were handed over to HVF as their owner passed away. It was great to keep them all together, and their new life on the hills with rough tussock grass is perfect for a Shetland Pony to live a healthy and fun life. They are visited by relatives. Please do get in touch if you can offer Zeb onsite adoption &/or sponsorship?
rosie
Rosie is the daughter of Pixi and a pretty Appaloosa type. She is young and full of beans but needs some handling and training. She will be a lovely friend to someone.Rosie has since had a foal called Thor, sadly Thor had birth difficulties and had to be humainly put to sleep after 3 weeks of life. Rosie was deeply saddened but in wild lives, they grieve very differently to humans and is now settled back with her other pony friends. Thor was laid to rest in the Hidden Valley. (Dec 2023)Can you offer Rosie onsite adoption &/or sponsorship?
pixi
Pixi is our smallest Mini Shetland Pony; we suspect she is a Dwarf, which has affected her structure and teeth, which contributes to her packing food in her cheeks . A recent visit from the horse dentist removed two rotten teeth and attended to other urgent issues. She struggled to put on weight. She is now improving. Pixi has a big attitude for a small pony and is very sweet. (Mum to Rosie & Nellie)
Help us fundraise for an operation to help her food packing situation. Can you offer Pixi onsite adoption &/or sponsorship?
little blue
Little Blue was given to us by a friend, who had too many. He competes with Big Blue and until he grows his fan of feathers he will be on the bottom of the pecking order. The farm is big enough to let them live independently. We have two Peahens too, which are quickly growing our numbers.
Pairs can go to vetted new homesSponsorship welcome.
Can you offer Little Blue sponsorship?
Dame Edna
Dame Edna, a characterful chook, joined us from a lady who had lost all her other hens and felt she would be better off with all our HV hens. Gray Gray, a lovely little bantam type chook joined us from a neighboring property. She lived alone and her previous owner felt she would enjoy life more with other hens. They bought our book "Derek the Hungry Sheep" to support our work in homing lost and needy farm pets.
